We all consider Memorial Day to be the official start to summer…who wouldn’t want it to start then anyway? But in reality, June 21st is technically the start of our beloved season of sunshine, cold drinks & of course…heat! We’ve rounded up our favorite places to frequent when the weather gets hot & you just NEED to cool down…some just opening the first week of summer!
-
Spruce Street Harbor Park: This is no new news but always a favorite! Relax on tree strung hammocks or out over the river of off one of the barges offering food & drinks! Pick up some of your favorite fair food like funnel cake or cotton candy…maybe even a snowcone! Spruce Street Harbor Park is a great place to beat the heat…or embrace it!
-
Summerfest at the Blue Cross Riverrink: Another way to transport yourself out of the muggy city heat is by visiting Summerfest! This is Philly’s version of a waterfront carnival for all ages! You’ve got your Ferris Wheel & fair games available to the kiddos but then you also have summer lodge offering a variety of craft beers & summer cocktails.

Center City Sips, which made many headlines last summer is back for those young professionals looking for a mid-week break. Specials on cocktails, beer, wine & appetizers, it’s the perfect way to cool down & take a break from the hectic work week.
-
Rail Park: Highly anticipated, this is on everyone’s mind & on the top of their to-do lists! The elevated park opens on June 14th & will span a quarter of a mile of lush green be space featuring plenty of seating, swings & public art. It’s definitely on our must-visit list for the summer!

Philly Zoo Summer Ale Fest: We’ve always loved the zoo, but now we have even more reason to visit! On Saturday, June 23rd there will be more than 45 breweries with 100+ different beers to try scattered among the big cats, elephants, giraffes and other animals! Proceeds benefit the zoo & its mission to encourage discovery and inspire action for animals.
-
Manayunk Arts Festival: June 23rd & 24th the streets of Manayunk will be filled with artists from around the country. It’s the area’s largest outdoor arts festival & it’s in our backyard!
-
Old City Eats: If Center City Sips doesn’t quite get you through to the weekend, Old City Eats will certainly do the trick! Every Thursday from 5-8pm select restaurants will be offering specials on appetizers & drinks. Cool off with a drink & enjoy being one day closer to the weekend.
