Weekend Event Picks for Everyone

Philadelphia Black Restaurant Week: This kicked off earlier this week with a pop-up dinner at the African American Museum on Arch Street & is offered through Sunday at participating restaurants. Choose between a more causal fair for $15-$25, or fine dining for $35-$45 and enjoy delicious African-American, African & Caribbean cuisines! For full details on participating restaurants, check out the list here.

BlueCross RiverRink Summerfest: Ongoing but not something to forget and leave until the end of the season! Enjoy the beautiful weather by being waterfront this weekend! Bring dad or friends and play carnival games, rounds of mini-golf or indulge in some delicious fair food at their lodge.

Spruce Street Harbor Park: If you’re looking for a bit more of a relaxing vibe, less rides & more chill, Spruce Street Harbor Park is your best bet this weekend. Relax in over the water, or ground hammock, play patio games and enjoy craft beer while being out over the Delaware River on a barge.

Historic Fairmount Park Scavenger Hunt: A Saturday morning well spent full of history & fun! Discover & explore 6 historic homes in the park, their history & architecture while on the hunt. For more information or to register your team, click here.

Parks on Tap at Belmont Plateau: Known for its natural beauty & history, Belmont Plateau in West Fairmount Park is host to this week’s Parks on Tap! Still looking for a place to celebrate with dad? Stop here after participating in the Historic Fairmount Park Scavenger Hunt on Saturday & receive a free drink!

Grand Opening of PHS Farm for the City at Thomas Paine Plaza: A working farm in Center City Philly? We weren’t too sure about it either but this interactive agricultural project starts today & is open to the public through September. This was created by PHS to help feed those in need through the Broad Street Ministry project on South Broad Street.

11th Annual Scavenger Hunt at Liberty Lands: Each year the Scavenger Hunt helps raise money for scholarships for the camp they host each summer. Through the proceeds, they are able to provide scholarships to 10 different families! This year’s scavenger hunt is an all-inclusive family ticket including dinner and adult beverages plus healthy celebratory kid beverages.

Start of the World Cup: The World Cup started yesterday with a blow out Russia 5 – Saudia Arabia 0. We’re looking forward to a busy month of non-stop soccer, the World Cup is the perfect bandwagon to jump on since there are so many viewing parties, everyone can get involved and cheer on their national team (whether by heritage or by location) and it brings the world together! We’ve got some big soccer fans around the office who frequent bars around the city to watch MLS games, EPL games, National games or any of the other leagues; here are some fan favorites out of the PhillyLiving office:

  • Brahaus Schmitz: Always a great place to catch a game, especially if you’re cheering on Germany or looking to watch any of the German league games however for the World Cup – they’re going over-the-top; we’re talking shut down the block for the July 15th Cup Final big!
  • Black Sheep Pub: A Rittenhouse favorite, and typically home to the Manchester supporters club, MUFC Philly, The Black Sheep is going to be a popular spot to catch a game or two this World Cup. The specials are still to be announced yet they offer daily deals regularly which are always popular.
  • Queen Victoria Freehouse: Watching the games in Old City, check out this quaint Front Street stop known for events for Liverpool games & popular Trivia nights. Again, they advertise food & drink specials but don’t go into specifics…I guess you have to go see for yourself! (There have been worse problems!)
  • Fado Irish Pub: Always packed for soccer games, you can expect nothing less for the World Cup! They aren’t playing around here…visit their site & you’ll find the schedule for every game in the tournament as well as a way to book your group for any of your most important games, plus a predict & win section!
  • Tir Na Nog Irish Bar & Grill: What’s one thing Tir Na Nog & Philly (well all of US Soccer fans) have in common? Neither of our teams qualified…and while that could stop us from celebrating the occasion, we’ve never known an Irish Pub not to be lively or without futbol! Tir Na Nog has its doors open to all fans and will have $4 Carlsberg drafts & $7 pizzas so if you’re not a soccer fan but your friends are…you’ve at least got to be a beer & pizza fan!

Aladdin at the Academy of Music: I can show you the world…or just a great time at the Academy of Music now through July 1st. Tickets are reasonable so if you love the movie, or have kids begging you to take them to Disney this summer, this may be your way of saving money and still putting smiles on their faces! Tickets and information here.

Clark Park Music & Arts Festival: This annual festival brings together the local community, music & art each year & this year will be no different! From 11am to 7pm Clark Park will be flooded with local vendors, food trucks & artists celebrating West Philly!
